In the emission spectra of Cr3+, why are the R1, R2 and N1, N2 lines called so? As in, what does R and N stand for?

Cr3+ emission in different oxide hosts gives rise to R1-R2 doublets at liquid helium temperatures. These are all zero phonon bands. Another set of lines arise due to crystal defects. There are the N - lines. I do not know what R and N stand for. Could someone please help me with this? Thanks
