There seems to be a lot of arbitrary and sometimes contradictory explanations for the difference between the Isoelectric Point (IEP) and the Point of Zero Charge (PZC). Other times, the two terms seem to be used interchangeably. This is really confusing me.

Is it accurate to say that the IEP corresponds to zero net charge at the surface of shear, whereas the PZC corresponds to zero net charge at the particle surface?

Could someone put the difference between these two quantities in clear words for me, in the context of colloidal (nano)particles.
