If we talk about the practice we do need to assess the efficacy of two drugs say for analgesics because this information is already provided before marketing the drug.
1. like pain subsides using 75 mg of diclofenac sodium while same is obtained using 400 mg of Ibuprofen so definitely diclofenac is more efficacious.
2.Lisinopril 5mg reduces blood pressure the same level is achieved using 50 mg of Captopril so lisinopril is said to be more efficacious
Since we are talking about in practice here also, a more recent matter on real world evidence should also be taken into consideration. Aside from a double blinded study, the cmax,tmax,auc and all the kinetic paramters, as well as the pharmacology and side effects of the drug, real world evidence as encountered not only by healthcare professionals but patients themselves should be look into considerably.
