In Memory of Mohamed El Idrissi

Kinemetrics announces the passing of our esteemed colleague, Mohamed El Idrissi.

We regret his departure and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family — his wife Halima and their children.

We are all human, and our lives are not endless. As scientists who have set as their highest goal the protection of human life — especially the lives of children in earthquakes and eruptions — we must reflect on the true value of our work.

During the past two decades, while different approaches were being developed and implemented, thousands of people perished in earthquakes. Every lost year meant new victims. The results of our method and independent examinations show that lives can indeed be saved. Should we not pay closer attention to what has already proven capable of protecting people?

One day, beyond this life, we will meet again — in a place where words are not needed and where truth cannot be hidden. Each of us will have to explain what real benefit our work brought to humanity. Could we explain this to those who became victims under the systems we defended?

In the end, every one of us will have to answer — before God and before the eternal Commission of conscience.
