I have read many research papers where they had used drugs like erlotinib,gefitinib,sorafenib,dasatinib,methotrexate etc but I am confused about their source.There are tablets available for drugs like gefitinib,methotrexate.Can I make powder by crushing the tablets or I need to buy the powder forms of the drugs which are available in companies like sigma.The power forms available in the companies are much more expensive than the tablets.What should I do?

The powder should be pure with out excipient so you could not get it from the tablet and could be bought from suppliers
Of course the right thing to do is to use pure forms of the active compounds that are free of excipients and other additives.
But what if you cannot provide these materials in their pure forms ?
Or if you want to test the effect of a particular commercial drug product ..!
You can then use commercial pharmaceutical forms, but after studying and identifying the excipients and other substances that are included in their composition and studying their effects on the study samples, and studying their effect on the samples from the beginning without relying too much on the references that relied on the effect of pure forms .
for example, you should study its effect on the proliferation and determine the IC50 of the drug and so on.
