It is a million dollar question. This is the reason why renewable energy resources are not gaining much momentum. we have to find out a solution mostly by Li-air batteries.

To counter this issue many companies have developed a Business Model of renting a battery to the vehicle owner in that case ownership of battery will of of company and user can swap the battery at the dealers point and thus no need to spent hours charging the battery.

As per global survey average distance travelled by private cars on 50km/day. By doing so dealers can opt for slow charging which ultimately increases the battery life upto 10 years. After considerable life of battery, it can further reused in some stationary applications for as long as 10 more years and after that company will ensure 100% recycle of the battery.

Your question describes the challenge with the chemical batteries. The main problem is that charging and discharging cycles are not completely reversible.

There are now heavy duty batteries that may have elongated lifetime may be up to seven years which are utilized in the energy storage in photovoltaic systems.

But their charging and discharging must be well controlled according to optimum condition. One of the factor affecting the lifetime of the batteries is the depth of discharge. One has to limit the depth of the discharge to a minimum possible value. The other issue is that one has to charge the battery at first with constant current source then when it reaches certain voltage one can complete its charge by consatnt voltage source.

As another solution which is conceptually different, instead of using batteries one can use what is called SOLAR HYDROGEN. Energy can be stored in solar hydrogen

and used to power the hydrogen fuel cells to drive cars.

This solution is now under development.

As of today, it is not their as my knowledge but it will definitely take shape especially in India within next couple of years.

Most important advantage to India being the learnings from the last two decades of e-mobility in Europe.

for the nearby future a cumb.engine running on hydrogen, to charge the battery's for electric driven cars. could be a solution. untill the capacity and environmental friendly production of batteries has improved. the battery pack therefore needs to be recycled. independent from the type of battery.

The key question is why?

Why do we want to go to electric drive systems since the Fossil fuel are plentiful and available at low cost?

All electricity brings with it are technical problems, increased cost and limited availability in usage.

Also, Electricity is not a fuel and is not a chemical substance as are the so-called fossil fuels. There I have to ask what is the chemical formula for electricity?

Its production is mostly from fossil fuels anyway. Why go the cumbersome sidestep to electricity? Electricity drive systems are way more expensive and unreliable.

The other point of the generation of electricity by solar and wind is also a big step backwards. Even regarding environmental cleanliness.

The sentiment that CO2 is a pollutant and causes the earth climate to change for the worse is absolute untrue. It is a political tool used by the proposed New World Order for gain in politics and power. The other by-products of CO, NOx and particulates (mainly from diesel burning) have been reduced by now to next to zero and have a short life span in the atmosphere. BTW, CO is a substance that kills viruses including Corona. Nature has it right.

Once this political aspect is exposed and world socialism is defeated, we will have a better and more prosperous world. The natural cycle is marvelous, that of having low cost energy which by product is CO2, a fundamental building block of our carbon-based environment, that feeds all life, Flora and Fauna of the earth. The fossils fuels are part of that cycle that could not be better. For sure better that man can dream up. We must leave nature alone. Geoengineering is another sin against nature.

Mentioned that most decisions are made economical driven instead of environmental driven. Besides that my thoughts are always about improving combustion engines. There is still a lot to improve.

It is good to know that more people are thinking that way. The geological professor you had talked to can only be applauded. Scientists that base their findings on actual scientific facts are being suppressed, unfortunately.

Without CO2 in the atmosphere there would be not life on earth. More is better and warmer climates are better for human flourishing. Just look at history.

Just a few days ago the opinion was expressed that EV's are 'produced' by financial managers and politicians, not by engineers. We have to see how EV acceptance by the public will unfold. So far it is not too hot. At this time it is likely limited to novelty seekers.

We can only push and hope for sanity return.

There are many factors that can increase the EV battery life time such as controlling the depth of discharge, charging power, and using high quality chargers. The EV lifetime mainly falls between 7 to 10 years. Additionally, some schemes are already existed in which EV owners can sell their used batteries (to be used for residential applications or recycling) and receiving some compensation. This will surely help in increasing the payback of EV. You can check the recent EV profitability/feasibility studies to asses their viability.
