Implementation of both FEM(Finite-element method) and PFM (Phase field method) in one model ?

Can I implement Phase field modeling in one area of a specimen where there is likelihood of crack to develop and propagate and in rest of area ,the usual finite element method?

Have anyone done that ? If so, please try to convey the main idea behind that implementation ?
