I am trying to find out if the impinger bottles train using isopropanol is suitable as tar sampling method. I also have heard the isokinteic probe is needed for this type of method, but reading it says that for temperatures above 350 degrees is better to use an isokinetic probe.
The gas temperature is around 700C but then the line moves towards a trace heated stainless steel pipe with temperatures around 300 and 400C, where the train is expected to be used.
Have you got any idea of providers of this technology?

I have already developed this sampling train for biomass/waste gasifier setups. Yes, you are correct it has to be isokinetic sampling probe and the impinger bottles should be after the particulate separation unit. Also, it is important to maintain the temperatures of the impinger bottles train and the heated line should be around 200 degs or so.

Thank you very much for your answer. It is a little bit difficult to decide which method to use, specially for gasification systems as some of them are either too big (industrial scale) or too small (lab-scale).

Please use the CEN standard for tar sampling:
Biomass gasification-tar and particulates in producer gases -sampling and analysis (DD CEN/TS 15439:2006)
I have used the above mentioned standard to develop this sampling train for the pilot scale gasifiers at Cranfield. Let me know if there will be any use of this system?

Thank you very much for your answer, yes we will implement the "Tar Protocol" using impinger bottles for tar sampling in a circulating fluidised bed gasifier. Then we will carry out the tar characterisation by GC-FID or GC-MS.
