I'm writing my masters dissertation proposal on the role of formal supervisors in the support and integration of international medical graduates into UK practice. I want to interview both supervisors and supervisees on their perspectives of the supervisors role and what experiences they have had good or bad around the relationship. I'm not sure this counts as a phenomena as such but it's also not theory generating as the aim is to produce insights into the perspectives of both sides into the role of the supervisor to ultimately make pragmatic suggestions on how this relationship could be done better all round. Would really appreciate some advice, many thanks!

Also, it does not matter so much if your final goal is to derive practical implecations or not since applied research should also rely on a sound theoretical foundation.

Sounds like your paper follows along the line of phenomenology, trying to understand the 'lived experiences' of "both supervisors and supervisees on their perspectives of the supervisors role and what experiences they have had".

Phenomenology generally involves a limited number of highly in-depth interviews, along with some strong philosophical commitments. Qualitative research almost always concentrates on some kind of "phenomenon," but that doesn't mean that you need to rely on phenomenology to do it.
By far the most common form of qualitative research is a set of open-ended interviews, followed by a Thematic Analysis, such as Braun & Clarke (2006). For some reason I don't understand, this option is not covered in texts that describe five "traditions" etc.
Maybe give a try to IPA embedded Reflexive Thematic Analysis?

Nur Afifah Binti Abas Braun and Clarke go to some effort to differentiate their version of Reflexive Thematic Analysis from IPA, so I don't think that combining those two methods is a good idea.
True about distinctiveness, only they also reported it was used as embedded method under IPA methodology successfully because it is a flexible method, i.e. the IPA philosophy informed the analytic procedures of RTA of choice:
