I'm trying to figure out the best sequencing service to use in terms of price, service, quality of results, ease of sample collection, etc. What should I be considering when I select a sequencing service?
I have used some national sequencing firms, a firm in Italy and also DSMZ in Germany. I should say that DSMZ is excellent in terms of service, quality and ease of sample collection, though full length sequencing is around 700 euro which is a little bit expensive. They deposit your bacteria for free and send your strains when asked without payement. You have to consider that they have also several cross checks in order to minimise the mistakes which may cause time saving and troubles during identification. They may also help you draw phylogenetic tree for relatetedness to most close species. Even they may send you microscopy pictures to compare with your stock; for free you can even use it in your paper:))) The custom of the firm locates in that country must have ease of releasing the samples.
You might have a local one that can sound more expensive that one abroad, but, you avoid some taxes, custom etc… making it eventually cheaper… If no local provider, according to your place, there might be some country that would be less taxed… And sometime a local one can be also too expensive, if it needs to import everything with high custom and VAT, then someone abroad can be cheaper, including all taxes…
If you mean 16S NGS sequencing, I've used mrdnalab.com. Mainly because they have a decent price and get the job done within the expected time frame. The guy running it seems knowledgable about his service too.
