As far as I can tell science offers cures for most diseases that challenge the human society and it continues to be at the for front in combating any new alien pathogen appears. Therefore what I would like to see cured is what challenges the human society continuously, non pathogenic diseases of humans of destruction en mass mainly caused by less consciousnesses, unreasonableness and irrationality that are fertile hubs of greed, infighting and the destruction of the human right soul to be disconnected from virtues of thinking and do any thing unjust and live comfortably with no regrets.

Women who consume alcohol during pregnancy can result in severe physical defects, brain damage, and developmental, cognitive, and behavioral problems, which can appear at any time during childhood. From a psychiatric disorder point of view: again, pedophilia....for which the only known cure so far, in my opinion, is life in prison, or the death penalty.

If we can consider stress as a disease that is the one I will put all the energy needed to contain it. Why stress? This is the evil of our civilization. It affects all age categories: children, adolescents, adults and even old. It is insidious and pernicious, it is evil par excellence. How many suicides and deaths from cardiac arrest. It is responsible for the denaturation of the human species. It is in our blood, in our minds, in our hearts, it is itself in us.

Prevalence of unethical practices in medical domain (including diagnostics) would relieve the patients of most of their sufferings.
According to a Doctor, there are two types of doctors in the world:
1. Those who earn by curing the patients
2. Those who earn by keeping a patient a patient
I feel, one of the biggest diseases causing the sufferings of most of the patients is the mentality of second category of doctors. If this one disease is cured, the patients could be relieved to a great extent.

I like to find out a highly efficient cure for the disease of DISHONESTY (lack of honesty). This disease has caused lot of suffering to the human beings all over the world. It is more widespread than other epidemics and it tries to act mostly in hidden ways causing harm to others besides the perpetrator himself/herself ,immediately or on the long run.

I agree with you overpopulation and poverty are are health problem. Some diseases directly proportionate with disease . The declines in the malaria burden as well as other diseases have played a large part in reducing poverty. Poor health can impoverish, and poverty can lead to poor health. But it also follows that improvements in one can benefit the other: this is why it is important to understand how poverty correlate with overpopulation and disease and are linked and how health interventions can help alleviate poverty.
Dear friends, Paul, Marcelo and all, I agree with many posts. When there is no knowledge of God (spiritual ignorance), no knowledge of a spiritual, eternal life, money takes over the heart, grips the heart. There we have the disease of greed.
And most of the greedy rich refuse to part with wealth, and we have the many who live below the poverty line and face the problems that Gamal has described so well above. I would like to discover a comprehensive diagnostic procedure which would facilitate the diagnosis of all possible ailments in the body in just one go (e.g. by exposing the patient to all sorts of sensors in a closed chamber) and then interpreting the observations to work out the requisite treatment preferably by a computerized system. This may sound like a fiction but then many of the fictitious thoughts have been put to reality. If this one could be realized, it would be a great service to the mankind.
It would be cancer!!! This is one of the most fatal disease in this century.

Like some of you, I wish there are cures for Alzheimer's disease and cancer. Several people I know died of some forms of cancer in the last few years, and I saw the pain they went through.
@Paul, I don't expect people to give away everything they have whether they are rich, super rich, or poor. I'm thankful to all who are generous enough to contribute to eradication of diseases (like malaria), the needs of WWF etc. It's right, perhaps the least we can do to contribute some money, when we aren't fighting these worthy causes directly. Even biblical tithing is 10% of what we earn.

It is worth spending money and efforts in erradicating certain diseases, such as Malaria. It is feasable. In Portugal, we used to have a focus of endemic Malaria in the South of the Country, where we have warm humid climate and pounds. It took communitary and governmental efforts to erradicate, but it has stopped, successfully in the 1960's. Let's see what climate change does, now...

In our body even a microscopic part is necessary & important & for deciding the line of any disease to cure is not in the hand of any human being .
Whatever the physical elements & problems for which human being are suffering are the resulting creation of living style or in certain cases suffering by ways of accidents or major illness which any human beings have to under go are the resulting fruits of destiny .
Even for spiritual faith healing one can not decide his line of his action any bodily part for the purpose to cure for the disease .In such cases also with the help of the medical treatment it may either to mitigate suffering or help him to cure in a very convenient & comfortable way .
In above line it is not possible any human being either to choose or decide ,or to select any part of body for the purpose of any disease to cure .

Nowadays our human need mostly medicine that is for our weak backbone. If there is a chemical which can increase human being’s courage in the world, we will be brave enough to block and attack Mercenary men hooking money with bad way. Because no enough brave men, grabbing and defrauding occurs in daylight. Most people know who is right, but few men choose to stand by him.
I am looking for the medicine. Just tasking a dose one can be brave for whole life. So alcohol need change, develop, very, transform and so on.

Dear friends, schizophrenia is one of the diseases that has no cure, at this moment. Last year, I had a student who was doing quite well on medication. He was a bright boy, and he was a great athlete. But the medication caused him to be unable to wake up on time. So the college allowed him to use a bicycle, whereas other normal students are required to walk, because all our students stay in dorms. It would be good if a cure is available; who knows perhaps it may be soon.
I'm not intelligent enough to deal easily with mental diseases. (I got top mark in the final exam of my Psychiatry course. As the Professor congratulated me and invited me to work with him... I kindly refused, and explained that I made the best of my efforts to get rid of the subject, just to make sure I wouldn't have to go through with it, again, if I failed... - I'll never forgive myself to have offended such a sweeet caring gentleman who taught me so much - )
Nowadays, I have to deal a lot with labour. professional stress, and I always remain thankful for the little I learnt from Psychiatry.
Thanks so much for the link dear Roland. I find that my students have high levels of stress. Congrats dear Maria for being a top scorer ! I think you made a right choice, far better to teach anatomy than psychiatry. Like you Maria, I also get stressed when the work never ceases, when there's one deadline after another. So I use Q and A, at these times to share ideas with dear friends how to overcome stress. Stress is the start of disease of our psyche. (But when I'm extremely busy, I remove myself from Q and A for many hours. It's the only thing to do.)
That student also told me at our first meeting that he hears voices. We tried to do all that we could for him. My head of dept of student affairs told me to help him as much as possible. We let him have a room to himself, although normally 2 boys would share a room. His dad came to tidy his room almost every weekend. He did reasonably well, and was accepted at our second most prestigious university. But recently he tried to take his own life; thankfully he didn't succeed.
Greed and ignorance. When people are good educated, they could fight diseases' causes and eradicate some of them. When people are good educated they could fight poverty and its consequences on health. When people are able to master science and technology there is path to discoveries of many medical treatments. When people are not greedy, there is path to love and generosity and no path to jealousy, selfishness and predation; when greed is fight people could be generous, helpful and conscious of their happiness and future behavior within the future of the human kind.
I agree with Marcelo, Paul and Fairouz: cure for ignorance, greed and lack of education. If I was MD: cure of Cancer.
Apart from several few acute infections and trauma wounds, there are very few diseases than an MD can cure...
My bet is on prevention. Preventive care...
But, as I think of things globally, the same applies to social diseases such as ignorance and greed, social cancers than we can help cure with Prevention ... (Preventive good education for all, and preventive unconditional love for all !)
That is my belief.
If I get an opportunity, my choice is "DISHONESTY".
This disease will show-up suddenly from unexpected corner of life and sometimes will change our life irreversibly.
I believe, if we eradicate the above disease, our earth will become haven and nothing is equal for it.

If we removed "dishonesty" completely, eveyone is going to be honest person. If everyone is honest, there is no meaning for honesty and even there is no need for it.
Much of this discussion appears to have turned academic! This is OK. However, how much of this, and how, gets translated into practice also needs to be looked into - if this is to make any difference. I think, as I had articulated in my previous post, IGNORANCE lies at the root of all problems on this earth. If we need to cure anything, that will cure everything else, it is ignorance. Recently I developed Diabetes. I had two options: Tale Insulin and eat as much a I can and want, everything and anything that I had liked previously. But I decided that in my reasonably long life, I had eaten as much as (or more than) many. Now I subsist on a frugal diet which none of you wont believe, with sufficient enough calories, proteins, etc relative to my work. And I enjoy every moment of this; and in a way I am glad that I developed Diabetes Melitus. So one disease that I DO NOT WANT TO BE ERADICATED is DM (except juvenile) and the only disease that can be and is to be eradicated are those related to over indulgence. Any way I am sure that that the best which mankind can do is not create more diseases.

I would cure the disease of "otherness". I believe the root cause of many of the social systems we see such as racism, sexism, genderism, patriarchy, and injustice are in-fact caused by the disease of othering.
To differentiate one from another even in the case of nationalism, religionism, and ageism is the root cause of these listed systems.
To other is a disease based in fear, greed, social status, and in turn will lead to love and after all to love is to cure all issues of the mind, body, and soul.
