This question is very relevant for developing countries.
Do we still have good politicians in Nigeria? This rhetorical question can be answered considering living condition and educational system in Nigeria! If am opportuned to be
the President of Nigeria, I will explore the good legacy left behind by Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Azikwe and the then Prime Minister of the Northern Nigeria. I wil ensure that what is obtainable in developed countries is also available in Nigeria. I will make Niger8a as a country to be 'heaven on earth'
I will ensure that whosoever is found in any atrocities such as embezzlement and corruption, money laundering , etc face the wrstch of law.
I will always remember that I brough nothing into this world ( I.e I come naked to this world) and I wil not take anything whenever I departe from this earth. I will allow the fear of God to guide me.
Try to improve the education system and the lifestyle of citizens. A small but crucial improvement would be the increase of first grade teachers' wages.
@N. Ahmetovic, thank you so much for your response to my question. Your comment shows that change is time bound and a difficult process too. What if you have four years in office?
one hour? It's very little time. But a lot of things can be done. In this hour, the focus and purpose of my work will be justice. As far as possible I try to establish justice.
I would ask all big professors of the country to remove the difficulties, anarchies and autocracy in the higher education , especially in PhD level ! It is painful and difficult in Bangladesh.
The problem is not the desire to change something. The problem is lack of opportunity. For the implementation of any decision requires the coordination of many interests. History knows many examples when people who have become head of state proposed "beautiful" laws. But the existence of good law is not enough to real effect, it is necessary to achieve its implementation. One hour is not enougth to do this. Politics is the art of the possible.
Thank you so much for your comment Md Zafar Alam Bhuiyan. PhD is like a hard nut to crack everywhere in the world. I'm just wondering if anyone else feel the same. Some friends/colleagues I interacted with told me PhD is the hardest thing they have ever done. To some, it was all fun. But generally, it takes a lot of sacrifice and pain.
If I was president of my country for one hour, the first decree will guarantee the welfare and development of the economic situation of my people. It is a decision to dismiss all the politicians who rule the country and imprison them all because they are the cause of the country's ruin and the deterioration of the political, economic and social situation. And thus ensure the successful management of the joints of the country from ministries and institutions and as a result to obtain a fair distribution of the wealth of the country to all segments of society.
Thank you so much Dr. Mohammed. A. Hameed, as a physicist and problem solver, it is clear that you have ideas to solve problems for your people, but unfortunately, those politicians might not allow great people like you get to that position of power due to greed. In my opinion, I think educational qualification is very important for politicians/leaders. An educated person can easily find solution for problems. He can think of many ideas, understand the problems of the people and according to you, successfully manage every sector of the country from ministries and institutions and as a result obtain a fair distribution of the wealth of the country to all segments of society. Thank you once more for your contribution.
If I were president, I would focus on the central issue that will carry this country into the future: education.
Education, although a long-term investment, will benefit this nation better than bailouts, mandatory health care coverage for children, investment in new energy sources
That one hour will be over just by thinking what you want to do if you have been handed over the power immediately. If not then also, nothing. However I want to take decisions to wipe out terrorism and corruption.
I agree with Pankaj Tomar. In India, President is the constitutional head, and PM is the executive leader and advices the President. In actual term, PM has authoritative power over the entire administration of the country. One hour is a very short period to perform a meaningful task for a president of India. However, if given an opportunity, I will try my best to enact stringent law against RAPISTS. Rape cases are increasing like flood in my country, so needed more aggressive penalties.
I would place term limits on all of the members of Congress just as the President of the US is limited to two terms. Then, I would order an audit of all Congressional income and conduct of all members of Congress. I would stop the life-time payments to retired members of Congress. They would only be paid during the time they serve and health benefits must be selected from the same pool as their constituents. All funds reserved for retired Congressional payroll would be rolled into a general fund to wipeout debilitating student loan debt. I would officially hire all appointees who have been waiting in some cases years to step into positions. I would transfer funds given to programs that are inefficient, ineffective, or duplicative and secure services for veterans and homeless. Finally, I would make it a law to hire people who are qualified and not fill jobs with quotas with people who meet a demographic instead of a qualification. Yep, I can do this in an hour. When do I start? :)
Thank you so much for your laudable response Dr. Beth Fiedler. You have all it takes to be president of your country for sure... As per when to start ...😂😁
If I were president, I would first listen to the people. The provision of health care will be an option and those who make more money than others do not need to pay higher taxes to those who do not
