Will both PTFE and Graphite bond together after compaction.
I have to mix PTFE powder with graphite, PTFE being matrix and graphite being reinforcement.These polymer matrix composites has to be compacted.Do additives needed for bonding.
PTFE does not wet or compact well. I don't believe you can actually do this, but would like to be proved wrong as I learn more that way.
For a better (mechanical) bonding you may think of partial melting of PTFE during or after compaction !!!.... just a thought.
Unfortunately you cannot do it directly. Fei L. etal., indicate in their article "The tribological behaviors of copper-coated graphite filled PTFE composites", that the graphite could preferentially transfer to the surface of PTEF particles during mixing process by way of the so called " solid solvent effect", therefore they used copper coated graphite particles to prevent this preferential transfer phenomenon which is important reason for PTEF mechanical strength deterioration.

Sir, I have gone through the paper.Compression moulding technique was implemented for preparing PTFE+cu coated graphite specimens.
Is it required that the Particle size of cu coated graphite particles should be less than PTFE powders.
Also the effect of particles size is subject to search down to the required specifications.

What is effect of sintering temperature on frictional behavior of PTFE?
It is said that PTFE decompose above 200 ºC than why we sinter at 375 ºC? I had sintered at 375 ºC; I got cof to be .25 (not 0.05-0.1 as claimed by literature) and my PTFE had not decomposed at 375 ºC (according to XRD results). Please comment. Thank you.
