If a Journal was not indexed at the time of publication. After few years if that specific journal got indexed with Scopus or SCI/SCIE. What will be the status of previously published papers?
You don't have to worry about that your paper will be available in the database. The article repository of the journals will be available in the database.
Sobia Arshad, ISI indexed journal and impact factor journals both are different things. lot of journals are ISI indexed but no impact factor like IJCSN journal.
At the time of paper submission, journal must be ISI indexed, then it is considered. For impact factor journal case, e. g. impact factor of the journals listed in JCR 2018 mean these impact factor is valid for papers published in 2017 year only.
Zahid Mehmood sir kindly guide me,i am just concerned with the indexed journal.I came to know that a concerned journal is indexed on the basis of previously published papers.
So,apparently that papers will be counted as a category X papers as per HEC rules.
Kindly contact HEC on this matter. I give answer as per my knowledge. ISI indexed journals are only valid for the award of phd degree and not considered for promotion so these journals are not considered as X category journal as per my knowledge. Kindly contact HEC because only HEC give you the final answer.
As per my knowledge and HEC guidelines, only that paper is consider, if journal is ISI indexed at the time of paper submission or prior to paper acceptance.
The paper published will remain your property as far as the matter is concerned, if your paper has been published and the journal is ISI Indexed. Later on, if the journal achieves impact factor. In that case, it does not mean that your paper also got impact factor. In this case your paper will be considered as indexed paper not impact factor paper.
Moreover the ISI Indexed journal papers published are not even equivalent to X-Category local journals. Thus these paper will not be considered for promotion case. However, ISI Indexed journal paper is acceptable for MS and PhD degree only. It is a clear and strict policy of HEC. You can confirm it yourself from HEC as well.
Firstly, It depends on the journal policy. Secondly, you have to make sure if the paper has been uploaded to the concerned indexing database. So, it is becoming in the concerned indexing database, otherwise, it is not.
You should check the coverage of the index. If the journal index coverage is from 2016 onwards, any article publised by that journal from 2016 is counted as indexed article. But if the coverage is from 2016 - 2017 only, any article published outside that coverage (e.g. 2015 or 2018) is not counted in.
You have to start publication process with an indexed and trusted journals to avoid such problem, plus I recommend this trusted site for best selection of academic journals:
What is the status of all of the papers published before the birth of scups and other indexical bodies? We need to answer this questio otherwise all of the scientific and cultural heritage will not be taken seriously!
The previously published papers (before indexation decision) can be indexed for the request of the editor. the papers are visible, also citations are visible.
Considering Emad suggestion of checking www.scimagojr.com
it is good but do not forget that new indexed journals have not scimago eveluation.
Journals receive an impact factor every year. So, when it is not indexed, the volume published at that time should not be considered as SCOPUS/WOS. But if an accepted article that was submitted when the journal is not indexed and published after receiving the IF, the paper become a Clarivate /Scopus/WoS. For example, a paper has been reviewed and accepted in 2019 in a Journal X. That paper appeared only in 2020. The journal X received its first Impact factor (IF=1) in 2020, then the paper can be considered in 2020 not in 2019.
Those articles, which are under review at the JCR releasing time, or just accepted but not onlined, what impact factor will be assigned against those articles?
When the journal is not indexed or has an impact factor at the time of publication, I received a few confirmations about the accepted article. If the article has been published before, it would only be treated as an indexed article without any impact factor.
Scopus and other indexing services have certain eligibility criteria which are madatory for inclusion in the detabase. They conduct periodical checks of journals that are already included in the database and if for some reason, they no longer meet one or more of the inclusion criteria, they are removed from the database. This is done to ensure that journals maintain their quality standards.
If a university or college considers only articles published in indexed journals as a criteria for promotion, they will definitey want the journal to be indxed at the time when they are condcuting the promotion process. It is natural for them to reject papers that do not meet this criteria. Most universities will not consider the fact that it was indexed at the time of submission of the article. Unfortunately, that is how the system works.
Dear Muhammad Asghar Khan personally I would not care about what was a few years ago. It takes some time until impact factors of journals are listed e.g. on Scopus for the first time, and over the years impact factors can increase or decrease. For your paper I would only consider the impact factor which the journal has in 2020. That's what counts.
Muhammad Asghar Khan If you publish your article before indexing the journal in Scopus, this simply means that your article is not indexed in Scopus. It does not matter if the journal will be indexed in future.
