the most of researches use Rat weighing 200g , is it ok to use rats weighing 100g ?
and will it be the same LD50 of heavy metals ( I'm using Arsenic ) and what is the biochemical parameters could be deferent ( creatinine and urea ) and also histology ?
the reason of using rat weighing 100g that is easier to handle
simply, 100 g Wistar rats are younger non-adult rats. I propose you to learn handling and using the adult ones, weighing between 200-250 g. It is not a big deal and you will learn it in a few days.
Abdulaziz Yusuf 100g rats are not adult I guess, the healthy adult rats generally weigh between 200-250g.
The LD 50 is calculated per kg body weights, so there you may find some differences as well.
It is obvious that there will be some minors differences between young and adults rats biochemical parameters. The most important is to use the right range of animals according to the experiment you intend to perform. As you are talking of LD 50, i suppose that it is about acute toxicity. You should use adults rats as recommended by WHO and OECD for that purpose.
