Hi, actually I've found the tutorials on the MAUD web page quite useful. What kind of material (powder, bulk, thin film) you are going to analyse with MAUD? I have some experience with powder and bulk samples + MAUD. perhaps I can help more if you have specific questions...
Are your thin films polycrystalline? Are they epitaxial, or highly oriented? How thick are they? What is the grain size? You may be able to use MAUD, but depending on your film, this may not be an easy(or even useful) task.
Questions of Edward are to the point. I also suggest first deciding whether it is worth the effort or not. In an extremely textured sample for example you would have difficulties as for the thin films with very low thicknesses. In such a case for ex. XRR analysis might be a better solution. However, if you have a thick, moderately textured film that you want to characterize for chemistry, MAUD might be straightforward. First thing to do is to characterize the XRD machine you are going to use, for broadening coming from machine. You can use some large crystals of KCl or NaCl for determining the necessary parameters. I again suggest checking out the tutorials on the web page.
Just to be clear: by large crstals in my previous post, I meant powders with large crystallites which wouldn't cause peak broadening.
Yes i think i can help you. Actually most of the time i used this software for quantitative analysis. yes tutorials provided by the maud developers are really good. but there is something that is missing in the tutorial .once you start the analysis you will able to understand the problem with it,
