I am studying Modern English Novel, spcifically postmodern and postcolonial novel. I am very indecisive about determining a topic. Is there anybody recommending me about a topic relating with postmodern English novel? Best regards,
If you don’t have a clear idea about what you’re going to research, I suggest you start reading extensively both novels as well as secondary criticism and make a list of potential topics. The more you read, the longer the list grows and the better you get at finding a research gap until you inshallah land on a Ph. D. topic that serves your purpose. As to Postcolonial literature, it is very rich and varied as you know and its range includes writers of various cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Therefore, try to read as many works as possible to help you find what you need fast . Leave no stone unturned so to speak! Best Wishes
First read and understand what postmodernism and postcolonialism are. Then you will find it easy to locate novels of these genres, and your topic of research. Mehmet Galip Kaya
Hi! You might want to read up on previous studies that have been done on the subject to see where the research gaps may be. There may also be some topics that will interest you as you do this preliminary research.
(Research) companions may be a good starting point to navigate the extensive critical literature on postmodernism and/or postcolonialism, and identify the main lines of enquiry. If something captures your attention, and you develop a liking for a more specific topic or author you may want to investigate further by reading both the novels and the critical work. Then, by all means, you should discuss it with your supervisor.
Post colonial English novels are, from my direct experience, hard to find. Novels tackling this, written in English, are usually from India and Africa. If you want to write about post colonialist blindness try English novels from the 1950s and 1960s.
First, you make survey of relevant research carried out by other researchers. Make a list of major aspects that you noticed in your survey and then finalize your topic.
I recommend you to search for some Conference Information about postmodern literature. You do not have to participate in these conferences. You might find out some creative ideas.
