I need to ship drosophilla sample for a proteomics study (drosophilla heads). Will dry ice be ok? Has anyone succesfully shipped intact drosophilla or drosophilla heads for proteomics studies?
I have never shipped drosophila heads, but generally I have had good success analyzing proteins from samples that are flash frozen and kept frozen solid. Ample amounts of dry ice in appropriate shipping containers should do the trick if you have kept your samples appropriately stored prior to shipping.
My expertise is in brain tissue from mice. When I collect my brain samples via dissection, I put them in microcentrifuge tubes and then flash freeze the tissue in the tubes by immersing it in Liquid Nitrogen. I'm not sure whether or not this is necessary for the drosophila heads.
Hi Pavel,I have not dealed with drosophila but I once shipped cyst fluids from human pancreas using dry ice and it works well...I think dry ice is ver suitable for biosample. No problem.
