You can check YouTube tutorials, there are so many that you can benefit from.
You will need to simulate two bodies with contact property between them, so you need to learn about the contact.
I have simulated dynamic macro indentation in the past, and I can tell you it's not that hard. However, incorporating the nano physics in there is the challenge. I have done experimental nano indentations, but did not have the chance to simulate them
Harshit, I could not find anything which would help to jump-start the project. So, I started from the basics. The interactive edition of abaqus manual, user manual and example problem which are related to contact problem, these are the things I am trying to cover. This takes time, but right now I think that's the best thing do.
My progress: I was able to model the experiment for 2-d; however, I could not initiate the contact as of yet.
Hey guys, i am working on bending of sheet metal in which i have to model the punch and the metal sheet which is quite similar to your problem of indentation in which the indenter would be deforming the material plastically....
I have modeled a 3D plate and circular punch, but i am getting an error which says "there are 2 unconnected regions in the model" .....I am not able to drive away this error...
I am simulating a plate (deformable) and a ciculrar punch (analytical rigid)....the plate is simply supported and the punch is initially not in contact with the plate....i am giving displacement input to the punch using Boundary condition's tab...
Also, i have defined surface to surface contact in interaction module with punch as master surface and plate as the slave surface
@ Amin: the two bodies are not at all coming in contact with each other which was evident when i saw the result in visualization module...this is the reason of the error message( "there are 2 unconnected regions in the model")...i have used surface to surface contact only....
@ Harshit: I could not find any specific example related to my contact problem in the link provided by you....
@ Salah.....Thanks....it would be great if you could upload that pdf over here....because i tried downloading some pdf tutorial from the above mentioned google search page..but could not download it....
Also please have a look at the attached thesis....check if it could help you in your project....
@Salah: thanks a lot for that pdf....just had a glance at it....it really looked very helpful as i am still stuck with contact issues in my ABAQUS simulation....
I will get back to you when i read it in detail....
And could you please tell me about the source of this pdf...it does not look like the ABAQUS manual that i am following....
@Salah: I followed the pdf manual which you had uploaded and could run my simulation successfully....I am no more getting the error "there are two unconnected regions in the model"....thank you loads for the pdf....
And yes I was able to locate the manual that you uploaded in my ABAQUS documentation....unfortunately I never myself found this tutorial while i was referring the ABAQUS manual......
Hi, Salah. I'm on the same situation. I just started studying nanoindentation response of Shape Memory Alloys and I'm going to be using ABAQUS. This is a very good tutorial to start with:
