According to previous literature I should germinate maize seeds 7 days, then cut the root tip, basal meristem or the whole main apical root, then leave the seedling until they produce the lateral roots.
Do you have any idea what is the best date cut the apical root, and where I should cut it without negatively affect the plant growth?

I also believe that 1cm is great. Just make sure that you expose the roots to the air to the minimum when you do the cut. Place them immediately under wet/humid environment (wet towel will do). This is very immportant for the further welfare andgrowth of the seedlings.

I am research on split root system too. i think its depending on your pots and your purpose. any way 1-2 cm is good
I think 1-2 cm in 5 grow days is a ok to push laterals as said
however here is some qs
did the Split root on plate dish works for other seeds (beside Arabido).. like tomatoes/beans? sould we grow them in a special media ? is there any other alternative media to HMF ?
would it be possible to transplant them on the pot easily without any acclimatation procedures ?
