I am a student from China and major in chemical engineering in both undergrad and master stages. And I also have 2 years research experience about lipid chemistry in the US. I'm interested in cancer biology and may I ask is it possible for me to apply for phd program in this area? Would I easily be rejected since chemical engineering is too far from cancer biology?

You are probably more likely to get rejected but that does not mean you don't stand a chance. You should probably start by doing an internship in a cancer biology lab to see if you actually enjoy the work.
Also be aware of the fact that cancer biology is a very popular field - there are a lot of jobs out there but the also a lot of competition so getting a position at one of the more established groups is very difficult.
You need to study related contents first. ss long as your foundation is good, you will be accepted. The first answer suggests a reasonable choice. Internship is good.
