In a study published in Journal of Medical Primatology (Tavares da Silva Fernandes et al., 2021), the human attenuated yellow fever vaccine (YF-17DD) was tested in howler monkeys (Alouatta spp.). The results were promising. No adverse effects were observed and all individuals developed antibodies.
Given that howler monkeys are highly vulnerable to yellow fever epizootics, do you think vaccination could be a viable conservation tool in emergency situations? What challenges and opportunities do you see for applying this approach in wild populations?
