Recently, i saw a news on Elsevier taking over one of MDPS's Journal (Screenshot attached).
Papers published in "Journal of Open Innvovation: Technology, Market, Complexity" before 31st Dec 2022 would have different impact on academicians/researcher/professors. Compared to those that will be published from 1st Jan 2023 in the same Journal, with same editorial board, kind of same reveiwer board as well, but with different publisher (Elseiver). How come the quality and perception of this journal change in less than one month?
It's a good question to be taken up in the academic fraternity. There are a lot of countries that regard MDPI as a credible publisher and then I have also seen professors in some countries that do not encourage publishing with MDPI, only because of their speedy article review process.
On the contrary, Elsevier takes comparatively longer time in the review process. The perception of people in academia is tilted towards holding a journal/publisher credible for the review time it takes. Whereas, we need to take a paradigm shift, and see which publisher is publishing high quality research which has novelty.
Havin said that, if the credibility of MDPI was really shaky, Elsevier wouldn't have taken up this journal in the first place. Adding to this, Elsevier is also moving towards a speedy review process model just like MDPI, because times have changed and innovation in science is moving by leaps and bounds.
Summing it up, a paradigm shift is what we need and this move by Elsevier is a testament to it.
The overall quality probably won't change a lot, but of course Elsevier as an old publisher can attract a different author group than MDPI. Publications from Germany might shrink, though, because German Academia is still arguing with Elsevier over their pricing policies and is still unsubscribed from all their publications.

As EB member of JoiTMC I know that Elsevier Publisher will attact more strong manuscripts to this journal, so acceptance rate will decrease.
