Hi everyone,
I am trying to develop a method to analyze Triethylamine using HPLC-UV, but I face the following obstacles:
1. low response even with high concertation.
2. tailed peak.
I tried some injection with Selic Primesep column and the result was decent, but I am trying to enhance the chromatographic conditions.
Note: I have already a GC method, but I need to develop a new HPLC method.
Any thoughts?

I would not do so. Triethylamine (TEA) would not be analyzed by HPLC. Gas Chromatography (GC) would be the correct and/or preferred technique to use as it is volatile (e.g. GC-FID, GC-MSD...). Very easy method to run by GC and a quick keyword search on the web will provide many example white papers, articles, application notes etc for review.
Note: We select an analytical method for a compound based on its' chemical and physical properties , its matrix and our analysis goals. Once stated, these show us which methods are the most scientifically appropriate to use. Just because you want to use a particular method or technique is not reason to use it. It may not be appropriate (as HPLC is not appropriate).
William Letter Thank you for your answer. I already have a GC method for TEA, but we need to develop a new HPLC method.
It binds to most types of HPLC columns (requiring that they be labeled "as used with TEA" so they are not used with other analysis methods).
