In the last year, a lot of European countries stopped the production and the use of HES in medical institutions. Their use in cardiac surgery it is not negligible.
Which type of colloids will you use in the priming for CPB?
How you will manage the fluid administration in cardiac surgery: with or without colloids? And if you accept the use of colloids, what kind of colloids you prefer to use?
We prime CPB using Hartmann's Solution (a crystalloid). We don't use colloids for priming CBP at all. I try to use crystalloids as much as possible for fluid replacement. If the patient is bleeding I use blood. If the haemoglobin is over 9g/dl I use crystalloids and more rarely gelatins or human albumen.
WE prime with ringerlaktat, no colloids. Intraoperative fluid replacement only with cristalloids, in cases of severe SIRS we use gelatine. We don't use HES anymore since 5 years
Lactated ringer as routine for every patient and we add albumin to priming solution for long procedures or high risk/complicated patients and we prime blood for for anemic patients.
