If we want our children to become more moderate in the use of different media, we should start with ourselves and not use them, and we should not let them steal us from our family or our basic duties. When children notice the presence of their parents with them for the most part, their interest will be positive in this subject.
In the present time it is very difficult for children to change their mind & outlook for which they have been pursuing computer or mobile from their understanding ages. The time has come that in the present fast age parents have keep the loving care with all the interest in their activities & for their interest like computer or mobile they must from the psychology of the children make the initial guideline for Internet & mobile which may certainly help the children to cooperate with the parents with all understanding .
it is better to ban our children to use computer and the Internet daily. I allowed my child to use computer and the Internet only when he really needed. Otherwise, sorry, then he could play computer games for 2 hours on Friday evening. The result is that he graduated from Harvard University with Master Degree.
Hengshui Middle School (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hengshui_High_School) is one Top 10 middle school in China. This school banned the students to use computer and the Internet freely. Many middle schools in China do similarly.
How to remember, how to learn, how to write and how to use knowledge are the most important things for any children to learn. However, the Internet has not told our children to do so in a face-to-face way.
The basic learning performance of a child has been decided by schooling Year 5 to year 7. His/her future is based on what he/she do in this life period. Therefore, banning children from using computer and the Internet is important. As soon as the child knows how to use remember, learn, and write, and then he or she can know how to use the Internet.
How to use/process knowledge and how to get knowledge are most important for any adult, including all of us. The big difference among the adult is here. However, we must admit that all these are from our earlier learning behaviors, from birth to the end of Year 7. If one child cannot get a good learning behavior till the end fo year 7. Then it is difficult for one to improve, in particular in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Therefore, it is worth of banning our children freely using the Internet for 7 years.
Another fact, based on my data collection and analysis in the past 3 years, many university students from many developed countries have relatively poor performance in intermediate mathematics. Some of them cannot solve a simple mathematical equation with a variable x. Many of them do not know how to calculate simple set operations (union and intersect). Why? To force children not using smat phones etc. is not a good idea. We have to motivate them which is not easy.
One of the key words is mobility. In our "Open Yooth tool shob " we have convincing success in motivating young people to work hands on and realise their own visions in mobility: electrified skate boards, add an engin to a bicycle, repair an old motorcycle, repair old cars, construct fun mobiles aso. They forget their smart phone the hole day.
I agree with Prof Sun. Too many parents in the global society do not discipline the kids with respect to the use of smart phones, computer and internet hence the problem we face now.
