How we can increase carbon content in submerged arc welding process? Can we use CaCO3 and if yes then what is the chemical reaction?

In submerged arc welding, flux is used to adding alloy elements. Then what chemicals can we use for increasing carbon, manganese and silicon. And what are the reactions occur?

Hi, il you have the possibility to modify the flux composition you con add metal-based powders as iron-based FeSi or FeMn, FeMnC and so on. It is easy to do and the result very stable and consistent. Differently, you can add oxides as Mn oxides or silica that react with fluorspar, or deoxidizers if present (mg, ti, al) as for example: 4Al+3MnO2=2Al2O3+3Mn . However these modifications and reactions must be tuned very carefully because can depend on welding parameters, wire-flux combination, etc.

For C also graphite is used sometime,
