Can get the idea of habitat heterogeneity by calculating NDVI of a place over a time period.
I am working on the NDVI of a place for four different seasons, and the values are significant different and literature's suggest that NDVI value correlates to habitat heterogeneity.
Aditya, Sorry of this is a duplicate response, but ResearchGate was misbehaving. It would help to know why you want to measure habitat heterogeneity. I work with bird community response to habitat heterogeneity. Birds respond to horizontal habitat structure (i.e., spatial variation in land use types or vegetation types), vertical habitat structure (i.e., the complexity of the vegetation profile at a particular site), and plant species heterogeneity. I have attached a couple of papers that I worked on with colleagues at the University of Wisconsin. They provide some examples of how to estimate habitat heterogeneity using readily available remotely sensed data products. Hope this helps. Regards -- Curt

NDVI values were differe withrespect to season and also with species of forest tress.
Vaibhav, I understand that NDVI varied with season and by forest tree species. However, it would help to understand what question is driving your (and Aditya's) interest in quantifying heterogeneity with NDVI. I see that Aditya has worked with wetland systems and macroinverts and wetland birds. Are you looking to investigate how habitat heterogeneity affects the response of those communities?

i dont know if its good idea if you do some unsupervised classification. separate classes and find correlation between each class during one year if there is seasons. at least if you dont have any ground truth. its just a theory but i was trying if i needed to do this task. i mean after classification filter each class and calculate NDVI and then find correlation among each class NDVI during one year or more.
