How true is this perception? If one is right-wing, he/she is religious, if one is left-wing, he/she is irreligious? Where in the world do such distinctions exist?
Let us first consider two seemingly contradictory meanings: religious and not irreligious. And in which corner of the world do we stand? Note that most people confuse not irreligious with atheist.
We await further comments to clarify the differences between these three meanings, and what we mean by each of them.
I can only speak to my experiences, but as an American I find that the biggest difference between the "right wing" and the "left wing" in terms of religion is that the "right wing" is more vocal about their religion. In my experience there are as many religious people on the "left" as there are on the "right", but those on the "left" do not make a big public announcement about their religious beliefs, they merely live them.
