I have completed all my PhD research work. Now am started writing thesis.
Am basically from non-English speaking country. Its always been tough for me to play with adverbs/adjectives . Any suggestions to improve academic writing.
Besides above mentioned, if you still have time, try to write, present & publish article(s) in conference proceeding or journal. Because you will learn a lot from the reviewers' critiques that can improve your thesis writing style as well as improve your viva (through presentation in research conference).
You can give your paper to senior members or colleagues in your field who have command on the English language to read through your thesis writeup for you.
You can also use editing softwares or task an editing agency to edit your English for you. Best regards
Universities and schools have their own ways and styles in producing PhD theses for their candidates. But, the main rights to organize and write the thesis in a good readable quality it depends on both candidate and supervisor. Basically, what makes a PhD thesis good and readable is language usage, the organization of the chapters, the connection between chapters, paragraphs in each chapters, the sentences in each page. Also, it has to be logical and informative in page. Other suggestion as indicated by Ian Kenneday.
It is better to write simple sentences instead of complex. Try to organize your thesis in such a way that it covers all the contents in a good sequence.
According to me, you should be capable to communicate your ideas and research outcomes to the reader in an effective yet simplified manner via PhD thesis without worrying about complexity of the language.
