As Behzad said first you need meaningful photos with high resolution. Image processing or digital image correlation are good toolboxes (Codes) for tracking a phenomenon such as progressing strains, displacement. I am not sure what you mean by crack modelling. if you want to track or observe the cracking in soil sample in more details, it can help. but if you want to model cracking in the soil like with FEM and FDM software, it is not possible.

A new version of GeoPIV has recently been released and you can download it from the link below. You will also find example data and 'how-to' videos on the website to guide you through how to use the software package in your analyses. The attached publication provides a benchmark of the performance of the new software in comparison to the original version.
