I am trying to synthesize tungsten oxide nano particles in water using sodium tungstate dihydrate as a precursor and oxalic acid as surfactant as per literatures. I am following Sol-gel method. I currently have access only to DLS for particle size measurement and my issue is that I am not able to get particle size under 500 nm . I believe this is due to instability of the nano particles in water . I see that the particle size increases continuously during the course of the analysis.So how can I stabilize the particles so that I can get accurate particle size.
I suggest using ethanol as a solvent. As it happens to keep the nanoparticles much stable, act as surfactant too. Try skipping oxalic acid as surfactant. Or you can use such solvents that serve both the purposes i.e surfactant as well as solvent
Methanol, ethanol, Propyl and isopropyl alcohol together with n-Butanol!
