The usual procedure when using a Latent Growth Modeling with, for instance, 4 time points, is to code the intercept T1=1, T2=1, T3=1, T4=1 and the slope T1=0, T2=1, T3=2, T4=3. From my understanding, one source of misfit is to code omit T1=0 in the slope, i.e. coding the slope as follow: T2=0, T3=1, T4=2. What I cannot understand is why? Does someone knows why?
