Hi all,
i want to simulate a compression and tension (with tensile instability control) of a cube (steel) with the SPH-Method in Abaqus. Unfortunately i don´t get the same results compared to the "normal" FEM calculation.
My steps are:
1) create a cube with all BC´s, Node sets, Mass etc. (explicit)
2) i change the input file (delete the elements, change Mass elements to PC3D etc.)
3) Material properties are: Density and EOS (Us-Up)
Is there anything i do wrong?

I would say that the SPH should be used when FEM fails, usually due to extremely large deformations. In such situations FEM gives abilty to visualize and very roughly predict the final stage. I also found the large discrepancy in the SPH and FEM at smaller deformations when both work.
