I want to simulate a tandem solar cell by using COMSOL3.5a, I don't kown clearly how to connect the two sub cell. Can someone recommend some aticles or books.
I want to know the basic physics of tandem solar cell
Your tandem cell is just two cells in series electrically and optically. The electrical connection is straightforward; but arranging the cells in series optically is more difficult.
First you need to specify very accurately the spectral power density of the illuminating light. Then you need to specify very accurately the absorption of, and transmission throught, light incident on the top cell. Then you must do the same for the bottom cell. You will find that you need to balance the photocurrents of both cells quite accurately to get a tandem cell that works better than a good single cell. By the time you have got to four layers you will need to specify the spectral power absorption and transmission to 1 nm to get optimum performance. Best wishes for your research.

Dear Hou, you ask specifically about how to connect the two tandem cells. From the conceptual point of view the two tandem cells are connected electrically in series and they are composed of vertical stack of semiconductor layers. So, the junction formed between the materials of the two cells must behave ohmic. Practically the interface between the two cells must be tunnelable. One of the implementations of the tunnel junction is to increase the doping concentration of both sides to the the limit of degeneracy which means that the material behaves as a metal like.

Newton didn't converge.....every time i simulate a tandem cell.
I have simulated individual HIT cell and perovskite cell with same short circuit current. But when i connected them in series i am getting the above error.
@Ramesh Upputuri I think it may be because of meshing. try finer meshing in the area of high doping, high photogeneration. Also, check if the junction in sufficiently doped to form an ohmic contact. In tandem solar cells, the current density peaks up at the junction of the two sub-cells. Therefore, a denser mesh is needed in the direction of the current flow. In a monolithic tandem cell, Voc of both the cell should add up and the short circuit current should match for both the subcells.
