I would like to design a micro lens to focus the output of various fibers onto an area of approximatel 5 square microns.  The idea is to fabricate a roughly hemispherical lens on top of a nanowire based photon detector.  Light will be delievered to the detecotr with a fiber that will be pressed against the fabricated lens.

Should I model the output of the fiber as a gauusian? Should the x- and y-span be the size of the fiber core? I am interested in a region a few micrometers away from the end of the fiber. Should I use the thin-lens option (instead of scalar approximation?) Is there a tutorial for this? (I looked but have not found one that's very helpful yet). Thanks!
