Hello everyone. How can I set up a porous medium model in CFD? First of all, how can/should i create the geometry of fiber filter without using any other software ?
There are two approaches to model the porous media using CFD. The first approach is to model it using a homogenized porous media approach, where you define the viscous and inertial resistance to specific zones within the domain. In this approach, you do not need to model the actual pores instead you define it using the resistance. The second approach is to simply use the actual porous media geometry. In this case, you take a small part of the actual porous domain and simulate the flow through it. But this case is limited by the size of the geometry and pores. In your case, if your trying to study the filtration process, the second approach is suitable.
In addition to the answer by Shivam Salokhe I can suggest to use FEM or FVM software like COMSOL or ANSYS, respectively. They incorporate the porous media equations and their manuals can be a hint for you.
Shivam Salokhe Thank you very much for your answer. I am planning to use a representative volume using some grid and mesh technique. So I think this definition refers to second option. But I am confused about how to model the actual pore scale geometry in CFD, do you have and recommendation on this ?
Luigi Candido I am also thankful for your help, appreciated .
