I think you will have to specify your application like, how you produce the syngas and how it should be used or in- and output specifications, like composition, temperature, pressure and particle load.
Temperature and quality of the gas - especially in respect to tars and particles - significantly effect the choice.
when consider pyro-gasification process, the initial moisture content (10-20% as usually ) will be evaporated when reaching the vaporisation temperature untill 120°C (before the devolatilization phase), the formed steam mixed with nitrogen/argon atmosphere can serve for auto-gasification. In this case all the steam will react to give syngas without any steam. Otherwise the condensation phase can be a suitable way as proposed by some colleagues.
