We are working with the pyrolysis of different wastes. The condensate mixture includes tar, oil and water. Before, we used to separate oil and water only from the condensates. But to improve our analyses, we want to separate tar, oil and water, all three of them. Can you recommend some technique for it?

as stated in the answer above use the centrifuge separator but make sure that the conical tubes are fiille up to the same levels with the emulsifier. also, you need to check the proper separation tempearture and cover the tube to avoid losing volumes.

My approach will be to carry out distillation of the mixture at the tar dew point which is typically between 190 and 220 degree C. Above the TDP, the tar should condense out. Kindly refer to this site for more info: https://bit.ly/2OvyFU9
Alternatively, you can try to evaporate the water and then carry out HLPC.

In my opinion liquid liquid extraction would be a way forward. Employ a solvent with the ability to dissolve water and oil. Acetone could be a suitable candidate solvent for that purpose. Solidified tar could be separated from the mixture. I hope, it could be of any help.
To separate oil and water, we are already using dicholomethane, But the issue with the separation of tar is still there. We couldnt find any solvent to separate all three of them.
We cannot afford doing distillation, we need to identify the compounds before any further processing. But i can look into solvent extraction.

Have you tried Acetone? The thing is when you are employing liquid liquid extraction then you need to play with the solvents. Another option could be using a solvent which is polar and merely recovers water and has no affinity for non Polars. Then you can employ another solvent for oil recovery. So, in short instead of doing the separation in single step, use two or even three step approach. Also, consult the solvent miscibility chart. It Will allow you to choose the best solvent.
