I have a large glass sample with various types of dust / particles deposited on it. The glass itself is too big to fit inside the SEM sample holder (Phenom by Thermo Fisher).
I tried using sticky carbon paper to sample the particles from the surface, but did not work as the stickers leave stains and are too sticky.
So can it be sampled otherwise? For example: washing using IPA and later dry it on a clean sampler.
there are several ways to do this.
1. may you try sticky copper paper (as carbon didnt work, so this will work neither I think)
2. try a fluid drop running above the glass and dry it on a sampler disc. or use a pippete to do so.
3. cut the glass into deserved pieces. sputter it with gold and then measure it.
4. use some kind of solid PEG on the glass surface and melt it with IR-lamp. then pull of the generated foil. works like disco-film or first contact-polymersolution

Thanks for the suggestions.
1. This option might not work for the same reason you mentioned.
2. Is promising. What might be a best liquid to try? Water / IPA or purosol (lens cleaner)?
3. Cutting the glass is not an option for me. Specially because its made of beryllium.
4. This I thought of. First contact can be used. But during pulling, the surface gets deformed and through SEM it is extremely difficult to identify which one is the particle and which one is the polymer surface.
for 2. i would try ethylalcohol first and then ipa. had some better capabilities to take the particles (imo).
for 4. may you should try to use edx then to identify which is the particle and which one not
