How to rinse a hydrogel? Can anyone through some light on some sources where i can find the proper procedure for rinsing of hydrogels?

I am currently working with hydrogels. The literature suggests rinsing them with distilled water, but it doesn't explain the process thoroughly. I would like to know how the rinsing process is done.
