I don't think my colleague (Kate Ihle's) paper on her findings from this summer is out yet, but she did it by taking out all the nurse bees (so in this case, I'd go into the colonies during the height of foraging and then shake the nurses off the frames--depending on how many emerging bees there are, that may be all you need. If there are a lot of emerging bees, then you need to take the capped brood out too).
