To remove unreacted 2-hydroxy acetophenone from chalcone wash the the reaction massin ether , wash it with two-three times with 10% NaOH so that o-hydroxy acetophenone becomes soluble as it is phenolic in nature.This way you can remove o-hydroxy acetophenone.
