I´m finding the way, how to evaluate or meassure the effect of therapy on dynamic balance abilities and ataxia after one therapy. So it is not possible to use some scales - it is not so sensitive.
There is an ataxia rating scale that assess upright activities.
For other pencil and paper scores: Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA), the Dynamic Gait Index, TUG are additional methods of assessing dynamic balance. Gait measures are stride length
Mechanized methods: computerized gait analysis and Bertec would be excellent methods to measure dynamic balance.
thank you for your replay. Do you have any experiences with sensitivity of scales, if they are sensitive enough to record the effect of therapy after one session of therapy?
could you expand your question with more details? Are you willing to assess dynamic balance through gait and/or static tests? Are you looking for pencil and paper scores or instrumented measurement?
SARA, ICARS, FARS are more focus on general follow-up. Hence, if for example you are just interested in gait improvement after one session of therapy, these scales will be obviously limited to identify subtle changes in one component.
If you use electronic systems related to what you need to assess, you will be able to get more sensitive results.
