Since the part-sketch is drawn in the x-y plane by default, layers on the x-z/y-z planes cannot be drawn while sketching.
Is there a method to change the default drawing axes to another axes system?
I also tried using partition and then assigning section but of no use!

After you import the part into assembly-->instance, I guess you will be able to rotate the instance in the 3-D. So why not draw it using y as vertical axis, and then rotate it in the instance module to get z as the new vertical axis? Will this solve your problem?

See, that is the thing...Pl. read Abaqus Analysis User's guide 6.14
(34.2.1 Initial conditions in Abaqus/Standard and Abaqus/Explicit-
" When an elevation-dependent pore pressure is prescribed for a particular node set, the pore pressure in the vertical direction (assumed to be the z-direction in three-dimensional and axisymmetric models and the y-direction in two-dimensional models) is assumed to vary linearly with this vertical coordinate. ")
When providing initial conditions in three dimensional, you need to specify vertical coordinate, which abaqus takes as z-axis (by default). This bounds me to take z as vertical axis in which layering cannot be provided while sketching the part.

Yes. If I understand your question correctly, I think you may first draw the layers assuming y as vertical axis. And when you import this part into instance, you can rotate it to achieve the z as vertical axis.
