Dear Professors and Seniors,
I plan to study the relationship between the elements of public space and people's place attachment level in public space, and how to enhance people's place attachment level in public space by adjusting these elements. I would like to ask for your opinions and suggestions on the feasibility of this research.
My research plan is as follows: Firstly, through literature review and on-site investigation, I will summarize the elements of public space. Then, based on the literature review, I learned that place attachment theory includes two factors: place dependence (a shallow-level dependence that emphasizes people's visual and functional use of public space) and place identity (a deep-level identity that emphasizes people's memory of the historical, cultural, and personal experiences associated with public space).
Secondly, through literature analysis, I found that there is a positive correlation between place dependence evaluation and people's perception of public space. That is, the better people feel about the public space, the stronger their place dependence on it. Based on this, I hypothesize that by collecting people's perception data of various elements of public space and place attachment evaluation data through questionnaires, and conducting statistical analysis, I can得出 a positive correlation between various elements of public space and place dependence, and that the perception of various elements of public space can have an indirect impact on place identity through the mediating effect of place dependence, ultimately affecting people's place attachment level in public space.
Thirdly, my goal is to study the correlation between various elements of public space and place attachment level. Since it is not possible to directly conduct research on the quantitative data of various elements of public space and place attachment level (because place attachment level is affected by many factors such as gender, age, and occupation), I will encode and quantify the various elements of public space to obtain their quantitative data.
Fourthly, I will conduct a correlation analysis between the quantitative data of various elements of public space and people's perception data of public space to analyze the relationship between people's perception in public space and various elements of public space. Furthermore, by optimizing the design of various elements of public space, I aim to enhance people's place attachment level in public space.
Is there any flaw in this ideal?
