I've come across two ways to generate M2b macrophages from primary human monocytes.

M2b: 1ug/ml LPS + 10ng/ml IL-1beta     https://goo.gl/B7vue7

Clin Immunol. 2014 May-Jun;152(1-2):10-9

M2b: 10 ng/ml LPS and 33 μl/1 ml medium immune complexes ( 1 μl 1.32 mg/ml BSA and 50 μl rabbit polyclonal anti-BSA were mixed and incubated for 1 h at 37 °C)

LPS is a constant for both methods. It comes down to IL-1b  vs immune complex. Is there a consensus to which one is preferred?
