How to modify a plasmid DNA with a thiol group or any functional groups for coupling?

I am trying to conjugate a plasmid DNA with an -SH activated PEG. The thiol group modification is possible for linear single strand DNA. I wonder if it possible to introduce in a plasmid DNA, too.
