Depending on what you are trying to investigate, several different approaches can be taken. I'll describe two simple ones:

You can create a discrete rigid roller part to load the pin hole, which will require some interaction properties.

Alternatively, you can couple the upper part of the pin hole to a reference point, and load the reference point in the direction of interest.

you need to partition the face inside the pinhole to two faces. Then apply the pressure to the upper face. The pressure should be P = F/(2rw). The pressure is always perpendicular to the face, and it is physically correct. The horizontal component is canceling each other out and you will have only vertical force.

I will agree with Wee Khor second opinion as its simplistic. You can create a reference point at the centre line and then using constraints manager, couple the reference point with the inner face (half partitioned).

Besides previous helpful recommendations I would suggest to use Load->Create... ->Surface traction: Traction - General. It allows to apply vertical load, although I agree with Karo that real loading will be normal to the face. Interection modelling should give more realistic results. But according to the Saint-Venant's principle the difference between the effects of two different but statically equivalent loads becomes very small at sufficiently large distances from load.

You could try an RBE3 element. The center point where the force is applied will be the dependent node with all 6 degrees of freedom associated. The place where you want the forces to be applied will be the independent degrees of freedom with translation only (1,2,3). This is a way to apply forces to a FEM from a single node to a collection of nodes on a solid. By the way, the structure looks like a lug. Simple analysis for this will show the maximum pin beraring stress to be: Sig br = P / ( D * T ). Allowalble pin bearing stress for different materials is found in MMPDS for edge distance / Dia = 2.0 and 1.50. Glad to see you are back in school :)

I tried using the method in which the upper part of the lug would be coupled to a reference point, with the forces being applied onto the reference point and was wondering if the loading would be evenly distributed onto the pinhole and another thing that I wanted to know is if the location of the reference point along the center line matters when applying the force e.g: If I place it the reference point at the very center vs keeping the reference point in line with one of the faces of the lugs and then applying the force.
