Dear all, I have a quarterly data and some monthly data. I want to convert the quarterly into a monthly format where the new data will only have the Q1(MARCH) Q2(JUNE) Q3(SEPTEMBER) AND Q4( DECEMBER) will only have values while the remaining months will be filled with NA. For panel data analysis.

Use the following steps:
Stata can handle this using a m:1 merge but first you must create a variable with each month's quarter. This is accomplished by converting your monthly variable (in the example below, I call this is called for "year-month") into a daily variable and then the daily variable into a quarterly variable (I will call this for "year-quarter"). As far as I am aware, Stata does not offer an option to go directly from monthly to quarterly without first converting to daily.

gen yq = qofd(dofm(ym))
merge m:1 yq using "quarterly data.dta"
